Rosy Nolan – “Get On Me”
Americana Highways is hosting this video premiere of Rosy Nolan’s song “Get On Me” from her forthcoming album Main Attraction, which is due to be available on October 17. This song, though, will be released on September 18. The album was produced by Rosy Nolan, co-produced by Heather Anne Lomax and Jason Hiller; engineered, mixed, and mastered by Jason Hiller at Electrosound Recordings in Los Angeles.
“Get On Me” is Rosy Nolan on vocals and acoustic guitar; Julian McClannahan on fiddle; Doc Brown on electric guitar; Doug Organ on piano; Ryan Posner on double bass; Jim Doyle on drums; and Jack Pullman, Jason Hiller, RJ Chesney, Zachary Ross on gang vocals.
Rosy shared a behind the scenes story about the video shoot: “The morning of the video shoot was already off to a wild start. The guy who was supposed to handle all the prop pickups showed up with an expired license, so suddenly it was on me to drive the 17-foot cube truck around Hollywood. I’m not exactly a skilled truck driver, although I’ve operated a box truck a time or two in my day.
“Luckily, a set decorator friend met me to help load the coin-op horse ride into the truck and strap it down. From there, I had to pick up the pipe and drape on my own, which meant trying to back that giant truck into a loading dock with only a couple of feet of clearance on either side. It was terrifying. Thankfully, a few teamsters hanging around took pity on me and waved me in.
“Somehow, I got all the pickups done, raced to the studio, went through hair and makeup, and we shot for the next five hours. After wrap, we reloaded the truck, hugged each other goodbye, and I sprinted back across town to return the truck.
“So there I was, rolling into the Galpin Studio Rentals lot in full glamour makeup, platinum curls, and rhinestone cowgirl regalia. The security guard takes one look at me climbing down from the cab and, completely straight-faced, asks, ‘Marilyn Monroe?'”
The song is a hoot, and the video, with Rosy singing from a coin-operated horse machine, is equally hilarious. A brilliant mind (or a couple, perhaps) came up with all of this, starting with Rosy herself. It’s old time country with a kick of humor. The most entertaining thing you’ll see all week.
