Halley Neal – Letter For A Friend

Americana Highways is hosting this premiere of Halley Neal’s album Letter For A Friend. Letter For A Friend was produced by Halley Neal, mixed by Dylan Alldredge; engineered by Dylan Alldredge and Alex Leiva; and recorded in Nashville, at Skinny Elephant Recording and in Boston at The Record Company. It was mastered by Alex McCollough of True East Mastering.

Musicians on the album are Halley Neal on vocals and acoustic guitar; Devon Gardner on acoustic guitar and fiddle; Joe Everett on upright bass; Juan Solarzano on pedal steel, electric guitar, acoustic guitar, high strung acoustic, rubber bridge acoustic, banjo, and electric bass; Kevin Dailey on piano, organ, Wurlitzer, Mellotron, accordion, and electric bass; Jamie Dick on drums and percussion; Sam Robbins on acoustic guitar; and Ethan Ballinger on mandolin.

About the album, Halley says, “Do you ever think about the words left unsaid — texts we don’t send, letters we never write? Letter For a Friend grew from that question, and from a song I wrote for my oldest friend, Emily, reflecting on the ways she shaped my life. Each track on the album is a letter — to friends, loved ones, strangers, even to myself — capturing gratitude, memory, and the courage it takes to speak the words that matter. Though deeply personal, the album is universally human, a reminder that connection transforms both the giver and the receiver. Letter For a Friend is an invitation to reach out, to honor the people who’ve changed us, and to never wait for the perfect moment to say what’s in your heart — to just say it now.”

Halley Neal is the real deal and this album, particularly the opening track “Emily,” needs to be on many year end “best of” lists. Sweet instrumentation, nostalgic songs with detailed imagery, and memorable hooks and lines. The concept of a sustained tribute to a friend as the years pass is stellar as well. Highly advocated.
