Trish Plays Bass “Cherokee Shuffle”
Americana Highways brings you this premiere of Trish Plays Bass’s version of Tommy Jackson’s “traditional” bluegrass song “Cherokee Shuffle,” from her forthcoming debut EP Bluegrass Love Songs, Volume One, due out on November 7, 2025. This song will be available on September 12. The album was recorded at Arrandem Studios in Winchester, Virginia with additional recording by Ben Surratt and Mark Raudabaugh. It was produced by Trish Imbrogno and Christopher Henry; engineered and mixed by Christopher Henry; and mastered by Will Shenk.
“Cherokee Shuffle” is Trish Imbrogno on double bass and vocals; Becky Buller on fiddle; Murphy Henry on banjo and vocals; Rainy Miatke on mandolin; and Dede Wyland on guitar and vocals.
This song is deliciously fluid and compelling, and a joy to listen to. It’s wasn’t necessarily intended to be a love song when it was written decades ago, but the sunshine and love translate pure and true just the same.
Everyone in the Pittsburgh region knows “Cherokee Shuffle.” We jokingly call it the Western Pennsylvania bluegrass national anthem because it’s the one tune you can count on hearing called at just about any jam, no matter the level of players. It’s not really a love song, but on the EP it’s my love song to Pittsburgh and the community that shaped me as a bluegrass musician. – Trish Imbrogno
