Donkey Hodie “We’re Family”
Americana Highways is hosting this video premiere of Donkey Hodie’s song “We’re Family” from their recently released album Hee-Hawesome Songs. The kids album was produced by Bill Sherman (Sesame, Hamilton) and Tyler Hartman, mixed by Tyler Hartman, and mastered by Matthew Agoglia. This video will be streaming at PBS Kids, as episodes of the Donkey Hodie show, which is the PBS puppet show series and a special new project from the team at Fred Rogers Productions.
Musicians on “We’re Family” are Haley Jenkins as the vocals for Donkey Hodie, David Rudman as vocals for Grampy Hodie, and Melvin Campbell as vocals for Cousin Hodie.
This video was directed by Matt Vogel with music director Bill Sherman, executive producers Ellen Doherty, Adam Rudman, and David Rudman; co-executive producer Kristin DiQuollo and supervising producer Caroline Bandolik. The vocals were produced and arranged by Crystal Monee Hall, and directed by Jeremy Jacob.
It’s delightful to find quality folk music for kids in the style of the beloved Fred Rogers. It’s uplifting with an important message for kids, and really for everyone: “we’re part of a team, that’s what it means to be a family.” The visuals of the puppets are bright and cheerful, better than you’d expect, even.
The characters and music created by Fred Rogers on Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood are iconic for generations of viewers, and this Donkey Hodie song honors that legacy with a new, heartfelt anthem for families that celebrates being together and being there for each other.
