Maygen & the Birdwatcher “Millie Moon”

Americana Highways is hosting this premiere of Maygen & the Birdwatcher’s song and special live performance video of “Millie Moon” from their forthcoming album The Americana Dream, which is set for release on October 10. The Americana Dream was written by Maygen Lacey and Noah Neumann; and engineered, mixed, and produced by John Fields. It was recorded at Creation Audio in Minneapolis, and mastered by Justin Perkins of Mystery Room Mastering in Madison, Wisconsin.

“Millie Moon” is Noah Neumann on lead vocals and guitar; Maygen Lacey on vocals, percussion, and whistle; Jesse Moravec on mandolin and background vocals; Nik Pellinen on vocals and banjo; Evin Haukos on fiddle; Peter Anderson on drums; Joe Barron on bass; and John Fields on accordion.

This video was produced and recorded live at Trilix Studio in Des Moines, Iowa. There’s a rich aura surrounding this group as the energy rises and they sing of getting past a tough time: “many nights I sang the blues and I threw away my dancing’ shoes, Millie Moon don’t be shy, the devil’s gone, open up your eyes.” This is in the ballpark of good old time music with a modern day feel and a powerful emphasis.

“Millie Moon” is probably our most joyous song on the album but comes from a place of old hurt. It wraps a story of healing in playful and almost childlike imagery. It’s our little way of dancing out of the darkness.” – Noah Neumann
