The Infamous Stringdusters – “Working Man Blues”
Americana Highways presents this premiere of The Infamous Stringdusters’ song “Working Man Blues” from their forthcoming album 20/20, set for release on January 26 via Americana Vibes. 20/20 was produced by The Infamous Stringdusters, recorded by Colin Bricker & Loren Dorland at Mighty Fine Productions in Denver, and by Aaron Youngberg Swing Fingers in Fort Collins, Colorado. The album was mixed by Billy Hume at The Zone, and mastered by David Glasser at Airshow Mastering in Boulder, Colorado.
“Working Man Blues” is Andy Falco on guitar, Chris Pandolfi on banjo, Andy Hall on dobro, Jeremy Garrett on fiddle, and Travis Book on double bass. As the bluegrass melodies rise, fall, and whirl around each other, the lyrics make the message crystal clear: “A working man may never be
left alone to live life free. To keep up with the bills to pay, he’ll have to work another day. Wrench that nut, clean the floor, fix the hinges on the door, punch out when the day is done, And hit the bar to find some fun.” It’s a song of the daily routine of working to make ends meet, a hardship that leaves folks too tired to do much but hit the bar for a bit and then start all over again, until even the bar is too expensive to afford. It’s insightful with a real sense for the injustice, amidst the merry bluegrass arrangement.
“This one came to me as I watch what’s happening now in our country and the world. Most people I know are working so hard just barely to get by, and it doesn’t seem to be getting any easier. I was looking to write a more traditional sounding bluegrass song, and this one came out quite quickly in one sitting during the first recording sessions.” – Andy Falco
