Megan Bee “Deepest Blue”
Americana Highways is hosting this premiere of Megan Bee’s song “Deepest Blue” from her forthcoming album Fiction, which is set for release later this fall. “Deepest Blue” will be available on August 11. Fiction was produced, recorded, and mixed by Eddie Ashworth at The Oxide Shed in Coolville Ridge Ohio with additional recording at MDIA Redefer Recording Studios, and EAR Studio, with additional recording by Garrett Burris and Josh Roman. It was mastered by Wiley Rhyolite and supported by executive producers Burdeezy Media Group and J. Michael Geringer.
“Deepest Blue” is Megan Bee on vocals and acoustic guitar; Caitlin Kraus on backing vocals; and Kate Wakefield on cello. Suspenseful and intriguing as the cello pulls you in over the acoustic guitar, this is a song about the way colors can move you, like those on a beautiful quilt: “I want to curl up in blankets with you, and dive into the deepest blue.” This is an innovative lyrical topic over a rich string sound and choice gritty harmonies.
This song was inspired by quilts at the Quilt National show at The Dairy Barn in Athens, Ohio. I was taken by the colors, the intricacy of fabric art, the language specific to quilts, and the intimacy in making something so personal as a blanket. Kate Wakefield’s cello and Caitlin Kraus’ backing vocals brought the exact luscious intimacy the song needed. – Megan Bee
