Copper Flats “Golden”
Americana Highways is hosting this premiere of Copper Flats’ song “Golden,” written by Aaron Gillespie, Josh Dorr and Dylan Guthro and set for release on August 1 via Rock Ridge Music. “Golden” was produced and tracked by Aaron Gillespie and Copper Flats, edited by Eddie Jimison, mixed by Matt Huber and mastered by Rob Richards.
“Golden” is Aaron Gillespie on drums, bass, electric guitar, lead guitar, and steel guitar; Jeremy Castaldo on keys and electric guitar; and Brandon Kelly on lead vocals.
Most of the time, you need to hit the road and leave and ramble to really find yourself. That’s what this song brings into focus. The guitars are bright and the song is driving and infectious: “When you live your life inside the lines all you ever want is out / I rode my bike to every edge of this county line town / Couldn’t wait to get them keys to daddy’s two toned ‘63 / Head out west, put some hair on my chest, do things ya can’t do till ya leave.”
Jeremy Castaldo talks about the origins of the song: “I first heard ‘Golden’ in the summer of 2022 when our friend and current producer, Aaron Gillespie, sent it to me. I was captivated by every aspect of the song. I was working on a different project at the time, and the song was on hold for a little, unknown artist named Keith Urban. In Nashville lingo, it was in ‘Urban jail.’ When we started Copper Flats, I immediately returned to this song, knowing it perfectly matched the sound and vibe we were creating. Gillespie secured it for us, and once we tracked it and made it our own, the song truly came to life. Infused with big harmonies and classic country vibes, this song is dear to all of us, and we’re thrilled to finally share it with everyone.”
Brandon Kelly adds: “It captures a little nostalgia for us. That bittersweet anticipation of our youth, longing for that freedom and experiences that go beyond the familiar confines of home. The song feels like a sun-drenched summer, chasing that girl and finding love in a well-worn, hand-me-down truck. In the South, that’s how most of us grew up! We’re raising teenagers, so we remember that feeling very well!”
