Meg Whalen – “The Break”

Americana Highways is premiering Meg Whalen’s song “The Break,” which was co-written by New Jersey-based singer-songwriter Meg Whalen with Rob Tanico. The music was produced by Ian Pollack and Rob Tanico; engineered by Nick Semanchick and Evan Rudenjack; and mastered by Lakehouse Recording Studios.

“The Break” is Meg Whalen on vocals;  James Sleeman on electric guitar; Mike Bustamante on acoustic guitar; Rob Tanico on bass; Satchal Schwartz on drums; and Jackson Ruff on keys.

There are dark and anguished powerful buildups zigzagging through electric guitar and keys and Meg’s emotive vocals, in this song about the pain that comes when you can’t trust someone anymore. It’s about when there’s nothing good left to say, and all that remains is the question: “Who am I to try to change your fragile mind?” It’s heartbreaking, but, as Meg reminds us through the pain, there are “two sides to every lie.”

“The Break” is a reminder to seek self-preservation when there is no resolution in sight. Identifying what you can and cannot change, finding peace within yourself without necessarily having a solution. It’s a meditation for acceptance. – Meg Whalen
