Phil Gammage “Buy Me A Drink”
Americana Highways is hosting this premiere of Phil Gammage’s song “Buy Me a Drink” from his forthcoming album. The song was written, produced, engineered, mixed, and mastered by Phil Gammage, and recorded at Starlight Studios, New York NY. It’ll be released on May 23.
“Buy Me a Drink” is Scott Dennis on drums, and Phil Gammage on everything else.
“Buy Me a Drink” evokes trademark driving rhythms that are happily reminiscent of early Johnny Cash and the Tennessee Two, but Gammage has wrapped that rhythmic concept into a signature, more citified, sound of his own. Phil typically crafts nostalgic retro songs from the 1950s and 60s and this is no exception. The tremolo guitar licks and shaker on “Buy Me a Drink” are snappy, classic, classy, and memorable with a touch of seriousness in the mix. Picture chewing on a cigar at closing time in a honky tonk dive bar as a couple of other patrons lean on each other in a stumbling dance. “They all want kicks, they all want fun, when it stops flowing, the night is young.” It’s that kind of timeless.
“Buy Me a Drink” is all about its evocative vibe. It’s the music heard in any anonymous honky tonk bar on Main Street USA. A soundtrack for second chances and fleeting connections — exactly the kind of tune strangers come to meet under.
The music drives you like a relentless freight train. The raw and direct lyrics tell a story of heartbreak, sin, and redemption.- Phil Gammage
