Lyal Strickland – “Gatherin Dust”
Americana Highways is hosting this premiere of Lyal Strickland’s song “Gatherin Dust” from his forthcoming album Ghost at the Gillioz, set for release on July 18. This song will be available on May 16. Ghost at the Gillioz was engineered by Headline Productions, mixed and mastered by Jeff Smith at Studio 2100. It was recorded live at the historic Gillioz Theatre in Springfield Missouri.
“Gatherin Dust” is Lyal Strickland on vocals and acoustic guitar; and Thaddaeus Morton on electric guitar.
This song shines brightly with keen observation and the sounds of Americana goodness, with lines like: “Nobody wants to go slow now, nobody wants to be last, everybody wants their trophy wall and I just want to kick back.” The playing is so powerful it’s hard to believe it’s only two people playing, and it’s all around excellent.
I went through a few rough years where I didn’t know if I was on the right track. I was exhausted from the constant churn of trying to make a go of it and the competition for what, at the end of the day, for me wasn’t really worth much. Our days on this earthly plane are numbered and I want to look back knowing I enjoyed as much of it as possible. – Lyal
