TJ Rosenthal “Mountaintop”
Americana Highways is hosting this premiere of TJ Rosenthal’s song “Mountaintop” from his forthcoming self-titled album, which is set for release this May. The album was mixed by G. Calz at G. Calz Studios in New Jersey; and mastered by Justin Shturtz of Sterling Sound in Nasvhille. The album cover art was created by Brad Kahlhamer.
“Mountaintop” is TJ Rosenthal on vocals and guitar; Jerry Mac on lead guitar; Ryan Meyer on drums; and Rich Meyer on bass. Motor along on your path without checking for the approval of others, that’s the explicit imperative of this optimistic, springtime tune. Upbeat and knee-slapping, quick paced, with charming tambourine bouncing along for the ride, you feel this is great songwriting when the message pierces through directly:” “do what you want .. take the road that’s long. take a second to think about all the people you know well, who sit around and bitch to yo about about how their days are hell… you don’t want to be that way.” Plus, it’s catchy besides.
“Mountaintop” takes inspiration thematically from those old 70’s era, wise man storytelling songs, where the narrator shares life experiences through offering direction and guidance. Like Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Simple Man” and David Allan Coe’s “The Ride.” Where the ghost of Hank Williams picks up a guitar wearing hitchhiker in his Cadillac. Then shares friendly warnings about the trappings of chasing down the path of making it in the music business.
“Mountaintop” is one friend’s reluctant advice to another: “I’m no preacher I’m no God” meaning essentially that the narrator is not one to judge nor do they feel the right to. But since some guidance is being requested, then here. “Do what you want, even if it’s hard to explain , or understand it.” Meaning live your life. Not someone else’s. You don’t need anyone’s approval – TJ Rosenthal
