Jefferson Berry – “Guitar on the River”
Americana Highways is hosting this video premiere of Jefferson Berry’s song “Guitar on the River” from his recently released album Born Into a Blizzard. Born Into a Blizzard was produced by Jefferson Berry, engineered by Matt Muir (with engineering and co-production on one song by Rubén Valtierra) and it was mastered by SoundLab.
Musicians on “Guitar on the River” are Jefferson on acoustic guitar and vocals; Bud Burroughs on mandolin and keyboards; Uncle Mike on bass; Dave Brown on banjo; Adam Stranburg on drums; and Theresa Ratliff on vocals.
This video was produced by Jefferson Berry, directed by Joe Schufreider, edited by Ciro Ayala, and shot in coordination with the Fairmount Park Commission. Peaceful footage of Jefferson Berry and the UAC against the backdrop of the Schuylkill River along the western side of Philadelphia frames this song in a timeless manner, as the song that pays homage to the intrinsically soothing functions of rivers to the human soul. Letting the creative process germinate beside a river is an empathetic practice and Jefferson and the band draw the equation in rich and classic folk style with mandolin, guitar strings, and “love that dirty river / get yourself lost in a 6-string dream, playing my guitar on a river.”
Philadelphia is a city defined by two rivers, but so many rivers have inspired songs over the years. I walk down the hill with my guitar from time to time just to throw songs into the Schuylkill River and watch them float downstream. Now and then, they come home with me. Dripping. “Guitar on the River” is one of those. – Jefferson Berry
