Susan Anders – “Moving Target”
Americana Highways presents this premiere of Susan Anders’ song “Moving Target” from her forthcoming album Now I’m a Kite, which is set for release on May 30. This song will be available on March 14.
Musicians on “Moving Target” are Susan Anders on acoustic guitar and vocals; Tom Manche on acoustic and electric guitars; Chazz Frichtel on bass; Waldo LaTowsky on percussion; David Lukens on keyboards; and Busy McCarroll on backing vocals.
Catchy with handclaps style percussion and it’s a regretful ode to a wandering spirit: “Why can’t my soul find a home and park it? / Happiness I guess is a moving target.” From a disarming and simple rhythmic foundation comes profundity in disguise and Susan’s raw vocal style adds to the authenticity and the fundamental truth: “the grass is greener always.”
At the end of 2021 after twenty years in Nashville my husband Tom Manche and I moved to Bend, OR. It wasn’t a good fit–the eleven weeks of smoke there the first fire season was daunting, for one. We wanted to move again but didn’t know where. I felt rootless and was questioning everything–that’s the story behind “Moving Target.” – S. Anders
