Lauren Minear “Nice Guy”
Americana Highways presents this premiere of Lauren Minear’s song “Nice Guy” from her forthcoming album. The album was produced and engineered by Dan Weeks with additional vocal engineering by Dan Barracuda; mixed by John Foyle; and mastered by Svante Forsbäck. It was recorded at WWW Studios in London and at Barracuda Sound in Brooklyn, NY.
“Nice Guy” is Lauren Minear on vocals and backing vocals; Hannah Grace on backing vocals; Matt Weeks on bass; Jonny Bird on electric guitar; Dan Weeks on acoustic guitar, synths, and drum programming; and Reuben Harsant on drums.
We need to listen to and heed our instincts even when people seem “nice” on the surface. This song addresses that truism as it indicates that something darker is underneath with its shadowy instrumental and synth tones, “I’d rather be lonely than fall in love with a ‘nice guy.'” Lauren has a highly impassioned delivery, and a message as she nails home the advice: don’t let your guard down.
The truth about this song is that it was inspired by someone I dated briefly in college. I’ve always given myself a hard time about breaking up with him because he was so sweet, but in hindsight, I wonder if a part of me was on to something. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve learned that it’s important to trust my instincts, even when I can’t necessarily explain them. I think people will find that this is what my upcoming album is about. – Lauren Minear
