TJ Rosenthal “Clear My Head”

TJ Rosenthal

Americana Highways brings you this premiere of TJ Rosenthal’s song “Clear My Head” from his forthcoming album.  This song was recorded by TJ Rosenthal at Apartment 5 in New York City; produced and mixed by G Calz at G Calz Studios Brick, NJ; and mastered by Justin Shturtz at Sterling Sound Nashville.

“Clear My Head” is TJ on lead vocals and rhythm guitar; Jerry Mac on lead guitar; and drums by G Calz. TJ lived a collegiate and pro baseball life in the not so distant past. Jerry Mac, who played guitar on this song, is a former college teammate from those days. A roots rock swagger with a little bit of the electric blues sets this song up for success, as TJ outlines the way to shake off the negativity and just get up and get out. “When I sit around hoping to find my purpose on the planet, then I know that it’s time to move on / It’s hard to make up all the days that I’ve lost, and I realize that wasting time will come with a cost.” Good advice from a winsome, remarkably listenable rockin’ blues song.

“Clear My Head” is about the stress we put ourselves through followed by the need for a reset. The grind, the hustle, the ups and downs, chasing bills that are due, the mental replaying of missteps. The self loathing, the pep talks in the mirror. When it all becomes too much, it’s time to decompress. By taking a walk, a drive, a trip somewhere, or by going out for drinks at the bar. I think I wrote it in a self deprecating, lighthearted way. Almost as a way to poke fun at the cycle of being so serious, and for what reason? But I’m still trying to figure this one out haha. Is it our surroundings that put heat on us, or do we just do it to ourselves? – TJ Rosenthal

TJ enumerated his inspirations for this song:

A few come to mind. Mainly due to their feel and attitude. Tough and cool. “Whitehouse Road” by Tyler Childers, “Welcome To Hard Times” by Charley Crockett. “Waymore’s Blues” by Waylon Jennings, “The Conversation” by Waylon Jennings & Hank Williams Jr, and “Born On The Bayou” by CCR.  – TJ
