HASTING – One Man’s Trash
Americana Highways brings you this premiere of HASTINGS’ song “One Man’s Trash,” from her forthcoming album. The album was produced by Brandon Meagher, co-produced by Drake Plantz, and mixed and mastered by Billy Decker.
“One Man’s Trash” is Kate Hasting on vocals; Brandon Meagher on drums, bass, and vocals; Josh Beale on acoustic guitar; and Rob McNelley on lead guitar. With a catchy hook and modern pop country stylings, this song takes aim at processing a breakup as it points out, lyrically, that “one man’s junk is another man’s brand new truck / one man’s trash is another man’s middle class queen.” Sometimes you find the right one to help you forget the one who hurt you, and let HASTING sing to you in style about moving on.
An ex boyfriend once told me that my lashes were too long, my hair was too blonde, and I was just too much to bring as a wedding date back home. We eventually broke up (shocking, I know) but I never did forget how that made me feel. “One Man’s Trash” was originally a breakup song about that situation, but over time it has come to mean more. I think I have always deep down thought I was “too much” or that my weird needed to be dialed down. Writing this song allowed me to confront myself…the good, the bad, and the trashy. Its release comes after a year of slowly working to not only embrace who I am, but love who I am. – Kate Hasting
