Adam Chaffins – “Layaway Momma”
Americana Highways is hosting this premiere of Adam Chaffins’ holiday song (co-written with Eric Paslay) “Layaway Momma,” due to be available on November 15. This song was produced by Adam Chaffins; engineered and mixed by Nick Autry with assistance by Zach Wills; and mastered by Eric Conn.
“Layaway Momma” is Adam Chaffins on vocals, acoustic guitar, upright bass, and baritone electric guitar: Derek Wells on acoustic guitar, mandolin and dobro; Robbie Crowell on Wurlitzer and Hammond B3; Josh Hunt on drums; Mike Bourque on pedal steel and Brit Taylor on vocals.
There are a lot of single moms out there, trying to make ends meet and achieve an ideal around the holidays, and a few single dads too. This song buoys the resolve and offers support, and in the end, “Layaway momma she’s doin’ all right.” It’s tough out there, and Chaffins’ songwriting commiserates well.
I’m not sure co-writer Eric Paslay and I knew we were actually writing a Christmas song when we started on ‘Layaway Momma.’ Little by little, we unwrapped this tale of overcoming adversity while staying true to yourself – told through the story of a Mother’s determination to ensure her little boy has a good Christmas. I think in the end, we wrote an anthem to the single parent who is not looking for pity but is busting her way to the American Dream. – Adam Chaffins
