The Red Clay Strays – Made By These Moments

The 5-piece band from Mobile, Alabama, The Red Clay Strays have a new album Made by These Moments, out via RCA Records and produced by Grammy Award-winning producer Dave Cobb (Chris Stapleton, Jason Isbell).  In the tradition of bands like the Turnpike Troubadours, the Red Clay Strays offer big sound, big emotion and anthemic songs in glorious Southern style with an underlying plea for prayer and forgiveness.

“Disaster” sets the tone of hard truths delivered over red dirt rock, electric guitar force and power vocals as the song emphasizes the way we all screw up, and we all rise again. In a sense there is a religious tone of sin and redemption, sung in power twang.

“Wasting Time” winds things up with a Lynyrd Skynyrd style Southern rock vibe , electric guitar riffs and the truth: “another trip round the sun and nothing’s been done / I gotta get out of this state I’m in.” “Wanna Be Loved” is a lament over the pressure of the rat race, and a religious plea and vulnerability: “My friend, I’m tired of being this way / I’m tired of running astray / O God I need to know you’re still above / I just wanna be loved.”

“No One Else Like Me” teases the intro quietly for a bit and then the message of struggle and hope for redemption builds up: “How many mistakes can I make before I start to see? / How much love will it take to make me not wanna leave / Will I ever be free?”  “Ramblin” adds speed and fuzz to the bad boy / “traveling down the road” vibe.

The big sound of this music is perfectly set up for big shows on big stages. The band’s vulnerability pulls the audience in with devotion, and the pace and tone is twangy and honest. This band is making a splash with this album this year among Americana music fans – a big splash. Listen and find out why.
