Mike Flanigin – “When My Baby Plays the Cannonball”

Americana Highways brings you this video premiere of Mike Flanigin’s song “When My Baby Plays the Cannonball” from his forthcoming album.  The music was produced by Mike, and recorded at The Studio Nashville by Brook Sutton. It was mixed by Brook Sutton and Chris Bell, and mastered by Oli Morgan of Abbey Road Studios.

“When My Baby Plays the Cannonball” is Mike Flanigin on lead vocals and acoustic guitar; Ronnie McCoury harmony vocals, mandolin; Rob McCoury on banjo; Deanie Richardson on fiddle; Guthrie Trapp on acoustic guitar; and Mike Bub on harmony vocals and upright bass’

The video was directed by Tim Hardiman of Black 22 Productions. There’s nothing quite like a high spirited bluegrass song, and this one is as fine as they come.  Lively and with the McCoury brothers, it takes off like the wind, and the lyrical topic is one of those perfect tongue-in-cheek bluegrass ones designed to keep you smiling.  Nicely done.

I’m known for Texas Blues, playin’ with Billy Gibbons and Jimmie Vaughan. But bluegrass was my first love as a kid growing up in North Texas. So when I wrote this song ‘When My Baby Plays The Cannonball’ and had the chance to record it with Bluegrass Royalty like Del’s sons Ronnie & Rob McCoury, Mike Bub, Deanie Richardson & Guthrie Trapp up in Nashville… I was in tall cotton. We had a ball, and they just burned it down. It was all live of course, and Tim Hardiman filmed it while we cut it. So what you hear and see is what really happened in the moment. – Mike Flanigin
