W.C. Beck – “A Letter From A Friend”

Americana Highways brings you this premiere of W.C. Beck’s song “A Letter From A Friend” from his forthcoming album.  The album was engineered by Justin Wilcox, Oli Deakin and Dave Maki; produced and mixed by Justin Wilcox, Oli Deakin, Dave Maki and W.C. Beck; and mastered by Dan Millice at Engine Room Audio.

W.C. Beck played all instruments, including acoustic guitar, drums, and vocals. The set up of sounds catching like playing rewind on an old movie, launches the easy going Americana style of the song nicely into nostalgia. With a comforting vocal tone in the same ballpark as Jay Farrar, this song has depth and will move your soul.  The lyrics are pure poetry: “Far from my eyes / But never far from my heart / I keep you close to me / I learned to let you in, in time / I had to travel east to find / It was a western front / A burning want / For some storyline / That always occupied my mind.”

Some songs come in a flash and others take their time to find their way. This one took its time and evolved over a few years – including my time in Paris and my move to NYC. I started this song while living in Portland in 2013; the nexus of the song started when I found an old letter from a good friend reminding me of a cross-country road trip I took back in 2008 when I sold fireworks in Vicksburg, Mississippi for a summer. After six weeks of selling fireworks in a tent, I road tripped and gigged my way back to Kansas and eventually back to Portland, OR, writing my album Sapling along the way. – W. C. Beck
