Lake & Lyndale – “Lawn”
Americana Highways presents this video premiere of Lake & Lyndale’s song “Lawn” from their forthcoming album. This song will be released on September 27 via Rock Ridge Music. It was produced by Alex Kiel, mixed by Brandon Butner, and mastered by Makoa Johnson. “Lawn” was co-written by Channing and Jonathan Krentz, Eric Clifford and Tyler Kloewer.
“Lawn” is Channing Krentz on vocals; Jonathan Krentz on guitars; Eric Clifford on bass; and Tyler Kloewer on drums.
This video was directed by Zach Manning with assistant camera by Mark Manning of Lone Valley Productions. “Lawn” was recorded with hazy sidewinding rhythms and electric guitars as it confronts what unfortunately is a very widespread contemporary habit of judgementalism, closed-mindedness and a lack of critical thinking and listening. It’s directed squarely at those who bring victim status and negativity to others as though they thrive on it: “Let’s call it what it is. You’re just a classic hypocrite. Get off my lawn. You be the right, I’ll be the wrong, just stay the hell off of my lawn.” The video outlines the issue perfectly, starring a person (and people) being picked apart and judged by others unfairly.
We wrote “Lawn” at a cabin when we were on a tour through the Midwest. We were talking about how hard it is to deal with friends or people who have a lot to say but never really care to listen to other sides of the story. We were also in the mood to write something more on the quirky side. The message of “Lawn” is pretty simple: all are welcome to the party but we don’t have the time or energy for those who insist on bringing around negativity and judgment. I think this song is our fun way of getting that message across, and I hope that people hear it and chuckle a little but also think about what boundaries maybe they need to set. We can agree to disagree, doesn’t mean we can’t still get along. 🙂
