Wreckless Strangers “Blue Sky Fantasy”
Wreckless Strangers has a new EP available this week: Blue Sky Fantasy. Produced by 4 time Grammy winner Dave Way (Aretha Franklin, Tracy Chapman) these songs are electric riffs, keyboard grooves and power vocals leading you into and out of calls to seize the moment and “bust out” of whatever threatens to confine you.
With a swish of funk and horns, album opener “I Found A Way” is an upbeat declaration to stop complaining, clean your bedroom, then clean your head. Just let it all slide and stop checking the list of folks who annoy you. “Lost Souls” (written by revered songwriters Bill Champlin and Bruce Gaitsch) brings on the groove with keys and a loping blues drive: “her mama said you’ve got to live by the rules… she did her best until she felt like fool, she needed to find something real,” and then there’s his story. And when these lost souls get together, it’s “lost souls, big trouble”!
“Handling Snakes” is electric roots rock and Billy Gibbons-esque electric guitar, and “I got your chain letter Tuesday afternoon … I got to say it made me happy too because it’s the first time you’ve shown faith in me…sometimes being in love is like handling snakes.” This song contains a chuckle or two. “Step Up To Me” steps up the funk and groove, “take what you got and let it wail.”
“Never Give Up” closes out the album with haunting chanting at the start, and then it opens into a driving blues song about what to do when “desperate measure, desperate times” are upon you.
Wreckless Strangers generate high energy with grooves, blues, and funked up roots rock, while advising you to keep sidestepping the small stuff and keep your eye on the real ball in life.
