Darlin’ Brando – “Welcome to Babytown”
Americana Highways presents this premiere of Darlin’ Brando’s song “Welcome to Baytown” from his forthcoming album. The song was recorded at home studios in Alhambra, Eagle Rock, and Pasadena; produced by Darlin’ Brando and Erich Schneider; mixed by James Sparber; and mastered by Scott Craggs.
“Welcome to Babytown” is Darlin’ Brando on vocals, drums, and acoustic guitar; Edith Freni on vocals; Erich Schneider on electric guitar and bass; Nik Hoffman on electric guitar; and Phoebe Silva on fiddle.
This song dances in the real of a humorous approach to parenting with a touch of whimsy and silliness. This song could start off a hoedown party with flair. “She said ‘Stop, dad, you’re triggering me / All I see is economic disparity / And can you put some more money in my account for me?’”
I started randomly singing “Welcome to Babytown” shortly after my daughter was born and our home life became increasingly chaotic. Edith (my wife) and I found ourselves singing the line over and over and knew it was begging to be the chorus of a new song. I wrote the song as a warning to myself not to spoil my sweet baby daughter, a very real, ongoing temptation, and used Sidney Sweeny’s character, Olivia, in season one of White Lotus as inspiration. The teenaged baby-monster of Babytown was born! – Darlin’ Brando
