Charlie Peacock – “Turtle in a Chinese Food Box”
Americana Highways brings you this premiere of six time Grammy award winner Charlie Peacock’s song “Turtle in a Chinese Food Box” from his forthcoming album Every Kind of Uh-Oh, scheduled for release on August 30. Every Kind of Uh-Oh was co-produced by Charlie Peacock and his son, Sam Ashworth. The recording was mixed by the GRAMMY-rich crew of Craig Alvin, Brandon Bell, and Richie Biggs, with Chuck Ainlay. The record was mastered by Eric Conn at Independent Mastering, while the Atmos/Immersive chores were handled by Michael Romanowski at Coast Mastering.
Musicians on “Turtle in a Chinese Food Box” are Charlie Peacock on vocals, Fender Rhodes electric piano; Bryan Sutton on acoustic guitar; Aaron Sterling on drums; Scott Mulvahill on electric bass; Jerry McPherson on electric guitar; Andy Leftwich on fiddle; Charlie McCoy on harmonica; Dan Dugmore on pedal and lap steel; Ruby Amanfu and Sam Ashworth on vocal harmonies; and Gospel choir performance and vocal arrangements by Ruby Amanfu, Sam Ashworth, Vicki Hampton, and Darwin Hobbs.
With a title like this there is sure to be a rich back story, and this is a song about Charlie’s first date with his now wife Andi – a tale of teenagers in love and a gift of a turtle in a food takeout box, given in the park “that’s where we start… we talk for hours… you know you’re in love when you ride your bike two miles for a kiss.” The music is comfortable, arranged in a rich and easy Americana mode with soaring instruments highlighted in turns, produced in a bountiful but clear style.
