Molly Brandt – “Queen of Clark County”
Americana Highways presents this premiere of Molly Brandt’s song “Queen of Clark County” from her forthcoming album American Saga, scheduled for release on September 27. The album was co-produced by Eric Carranza and Molly Brandt; engineered by Patrick Boland, Jeff Patlingrao, and Eric Carranza at Museum of Being and Honeytone Studio; mixed by Patrick Boland; and edited by Eric Carranza and Jeff Patlingrao. It was mastered by Gavin Lurssen.
“Queen of Clark County” is Molly Brandt on lead and backing vocals, keys and synth; Eric Carranza on acoustic guitar, electric guitar, keys, and synth; Brett Bjornrud on drums and percussion; and Ross Vander Werf on bass. Bright sounds set the stage for an optimistic song about the celebratory burlesque dancer, just living large and living life: the Queen of Clark County. And the implicit reward of stepping off the beaten track, out of the overdone bright lights, and into the reality and grit of local America is revealed in the imagery and in the validity of the songwriting itself. Molly Brandt found the authentic heart of the scene.
I visited Las Vegas for the first time in the heat of July with a group of friends, only to find the city was not what I expected and I felt like I didn’t quite fit into the scene on the strip. Through some advice of a gal at the dispensary, we wound up somewhere off the strip watching incredible burlesque dancers which was a magical and eye-opening experience. I also spent time alone at the Springs Preserve botanical center and museum, taking lots of notes of what I saw and learned about the history of Las Vegas and the Mojave desert. The experience of seeing the burlesque dancers and exploring the history and nature of Las Vegas inspired the character the “Queen of Clark County,” a burlesque dancer who helped me feel the magic this place had to offer that I couldn’t see at first. – Molly Brandt
