Holly Bruce “Sober”
Americana Highways brings you this premiere of Holly Bruce’s song “Sober” from her forthcoming album. The album was produced and mixed by Chris Brush with executive and co-production by Holly Bruce. It was mastered by Duncan Ferguson.

Grappling with addiction can take many forms, of course. One of those forms is when the addict is someone you’re in relationship with. Bruce combines her years of working in the healing arts with this song, “Sober,” which is another form of healing, and as she says, the healing journey takes place step by step, however small. The result is a cathartic release and a rush of emotional release.
My self discovery, recovery and spiritual journeys have often pointed me to reflect on things that I encounter as a possible mirror of myself or, at least an opportunity to reflect, soften judgments and act more compassionately, especially when things are bothersome. I find this practice of seeing others as a mirror of myself can inspire humility, discernment and greater compassion in how I may respond. Thoughts and feelings may be useful but may not always reflect facts and there is always more to the “stories” that I tell myself and that the mind may create about any situation. This has not always been an easy practice. “Sober” like much of my music has layers and was written to process complex feelings and themes. As I started to process haunting feelings and grieving the loss of a long term relationship, I was hurt by what seemed like the person choosing their vices over the relationship and uncovered an unhealthy pattern of attachment in myself. It has taken a while to discover what was needed to recover from these experiences.I find empowerment in owning my part, being more responsible for myself and in learning better self care. I am discovering, as many things in life are… it is step by step. – Holly Bruce
