Marlin’s Dreaming – “Earnestly”

Americana Highways presents this video premiere of Marlin’s Dreaming’s song “Earnestly” (featuring Erny Belle) from their forthcoming album Hello, My Dear, which is scheduled to be released on September 28. This song will be available on May 29. The album was produced by Marlin’s Dreaming and Justyn Pilbrow; recorded by De Stevens and Patrick Hill and mixed by Justyn Pilbrow.

“Earnestly” is  Semisi Ma’ia’i on vocals and guitar; Oscar Johns on bass; Hamish Morgan on drums; De Stevens on guitar, and features Erne Belle on vocals.

The video was directed by Semisi Ma’ia’i, and produced by Sweetshop Films.  Nice and easy does it on the arrangement here.  There are haunting lines like:”Earnestly, do you think we’ll die alone, dear,” and the slide guitar moves in and out of the song’s dreamscape to create a song that sounds like the thoughts inside your mind, with hope for a deep human connection with another soul.

“Earnestly” started from a raw voice memo, just me and my acoustic, and it hit right. With the band, we set out to keep that energy, building around the vocals and acoustic core. We were careful to keep the production as minimal & stripped back as we felt necessary. It took some restraint not to go overboard with all the studio gadgets, but we managed to keep it real. – Semisi Ma’ia’i
