Before the famed band walked out onto the stage, a heartfelt speech was delivered to recognize the native and indigenous people and land of Wisconsin. This simple act is a testament to the band’s core values aside from music. Portugal. The Man has a history of advocating for the rights of indigenous peoples, and even established the PTM Foundation which boosts the often silenced voice of Indigenous communities and organizations. 

As the powerful speech concluded and the lights began to dim, the excitement rose through the packed crowd. The band filed onto the stage, the smoke machines started to sweep across the front row, the lights flashed from light to dark, and then the first chord was struck. And boy was it struck. Out of the many concerts I have been lucky to experience, Portugal. The Man, within the first thirty seconds, claimed my top five spot. The energy was palpable, their stage presence was captivating, and their music was electric. From John Gourley, center stage on the guitar to Kyle O’Quin behind the synthesizer, it never felt like one band member stole the show. Each member having their moment to shine and captivate the audience.

One thing that stood out was the band’s ability to play nonstop. With each song coming to an end, they seamlessly transitioned into the next, blending all of their songs into one big production of musical greatness. This incredible display of artistry continues to prove how Portugal. The Man has stood the test of time as a legendary band capable of taking their shows to the next level. So, the next time they stop in your town, grab a ticket and experience a night of generational music and electrifying talent on display.
