Americana Highways is hosting this video premiere of Luke Daniel’s song “Smoking Weed With Jesus” from his forthcoming album, which releases later this year. The album was produced by Derek Hames and mixed by John Shelton at Edgewater Music Studios (Teague Brothers, Statesboro Revue, Paige Lewis) in Sugar Land Texas. It was mastered by John Moran (ZZ Top, Rolling Stones, Neil Young).

This video is directed and edited by AJ Vallejo, with footage from videographer Luke Adams. With a title like this, it’s bound to be humorous, but is it? Yes, but also no, because there’s a kernel of truth about the spiritual feel to a cannabis high. “I was thinking about that devil’s plant, how it saved my life and things like that, god spoke to Moses through a bush a’burnin… and I believe that Jesus was a stoner.” Luke Daniel has a knack for making a kickass country blues song that feels good but also gets you thinking, in spite of yourself. Fun, down to earth footage adds to the playfulness.
