Louise Bichan – “The Lost Summer”
Americana Highways is hosting this premiere of Louise Bichan’s song “The Lost Summer,” which is the title track from her album slated for release on April 8. The Lost Summer was produced, engineered and mixed by Ethan Setiawan, and mastered by Peter Atkinson.
Musicians on “The Lost Summer” are Louise Bichan on fiddle; Conor Hearn on guitar; Brendan Hearn on cello; Ethan Setiawan on octave mandolin; Dan Klingsberg on double bass; and Ali Levack on whistle. With masterful playing, a song doesn’t need lyrics to convey the meaning. Serendipity and power fiddle playing call up the core vibe of human experiences exploring in nature and following one’s own muse in this song. Sounds of satisfaction, punctuated with glorious whistle, cello, acoustic guitar and mandolin.
I wrote “The Lost Summer” in 2020, while feeling homesick and not knowing when I’d next get to see my family in Scotland. I was sad to be missing out on summer in Orkney with my siblings, who were home, helping out on the family farm. In the end, I had an unforgettable summer, road tripping across the States, camping out in National Forests and hiking in some incredible landscapes. All certainly was not lost! – Louise Bichan
