JEMS

“Bury It” is JEMS (Jessica Rotter, Emily Colombier and Sarah Margaret Huff) on vocals;  Adam Tressler on guitar; Francisco Ojeda on bass;  Adam Christgau on drums; and Kim Vi on keys.

Jessica Rotter’s warmth, Emily Colombier’s earthiness, and Sarah Margaret Huff’s bright tones set up a soaring harmonious experience here.  The song rises to glorious heights.  There are so many stray comments and expectations that we try to meet for others, only to find that we can’t ultimately change ourselves and our own hearts’ desires.  That’s what this song is gloriously about. “If you bury it deep enough, will you carry it in the dark?”

“Bury It” combines a lot of our own experiences and those of people in our lives who have had to hide who they are to fit in or be comfortable existing in their surroundings – it’s a reflection on being true to oneself and the consequence of repressing pain and ignoring inner truth. Told in three different narratives, this song encourages anyone listening to shed the expectations of others and embrace authenticity. We all know how freeing living one’s truth is and have seen how hardened people become when they feel the need to conceal their true selves from the world. Be loud, be proud, be you! The world will learn to accept our differences if we are brave enough to own them. – JEMS
