Jay Gavin – “Better Man” featuring Billy Don Burns
Americana Highways brings you this video premiere of Jay Gavin’s song “Better Man” from his forthcoming album Road Ready (Good Time Charlie’s Records). Road Ready was produced by Denny Knight and engineered by Bobby Bradley and recorded at The Den Nashville Music Group.
“Better Man” is Jay Gavin on vocals; Billy Don Burns on recitation; Jeff Williams on guitar, percussion and backing vocals; Jay Gorman on bass; William Ellis on drums; Steve Hinson on steel guitar; Denny Knight on percussion and Jeff Armstrong on piano.
This video was filmed by Erik Gustafson at the Lucky Star Saloon. It was produced, directed and edited by Jay Gavin. “Tell me where do I have to sign up to start over.” Even though it’s all old-style country, it somehow sounds quite a little like John Prine. The addition of Billy Don Burns anchors the Texas country credibility. The video sweetly captures an honest dynamic between a couple, with the pedal steel accompanying the scenes of hope.
When I wrote “Better Man” I was on a plane to Nashville, tired, hungover and on my way to record with Denny Knight at Nashville Music Group. I knew this was a big opportunity for me. I had two goals in mind… to try and make some changes in my life, be a better man and to write a song that I thought captured the spirit of the old country songs that I grew up on! – Jay Gavin
