Nan MacMillan – “Mad Sometimes”
Americana Highways brings you this premiere of Nan MacMillan’s song “Mad Sometimes” from her forthcoming album From Both Eyes, which is slated for release on March 8. From Both Eyes was produced by Alex Bingham and Nan Macmillan; engineered by Saman Khoujinian with additional engineering by Sam Roller; mixed by Mark Goodell and mastered by Dan Millice.
“Mad Sometimes” is Nan Macmillan on vocals and electric guitar; Tyler Hutcherson on piano and synthesizers; Matt McCaughan on drums, percussion, and synthesizer; Kim McMasters on electric guitar; Alex Bingham on bass and synthesizer; and Chessa Rich on vocals.
The song begins with dirty, rootsy electric guitars, cinematic synth sounds and co-producer Alex Bingham says “rolling” in the background and you are transported in your imagination to a movie set. But then the soul searching begins – why do we just get mad sometimes? Sometimes relationships fall apart because we simply grow out of them, and the reasons are maybe just excuses. Nan has a honeyed vocal tone, which adds to the allure here.
“Mad Sometimes” is a song about being mad at someone but you don’t really know why, and you don’t really know if you should be. The song traces the process of understanding why I might be mad, ultimately realizing I was “turning into someone else.” And that this new version of myself couldn’t thrive in the presence of this relationship. – Nan MacMillan
