Song Premiere: Eric Bibb “500 Miles”

Listen & Watch Video Premieres

Americana Highways brings you this video premiere of Eric Bibb ‘s song ”500 Miles,” which will be released on January 20th. The song is part of his forthcoming release Ridin’, which will be available on March 24.

“500 Miles” is an adaptation of an old traditional folk song called “900 Miles,” which gained popularity during the folk revival of the 1960s. Eric’s version of “500 Miles” is centered around a 6-string banjo.

The music video is a medley of scenes of travelers trekking across breathtaking mountains around the world, while Bibb narrates the lament of a traveler who is on a journey far from home. It was directed and edited by David Adlhoch with creative direction courtesy of REPUTE RECORDS AB (Glen Scott/Jesper Wikstrom/Agnese Stengrevics). Videography is by Ulrika Bibb.

Shuffly rhythms, timeless old times music, and Eric Bibb’s vulnerable honeyed vocals are a delight.  Plucked banjo, twisting fiddle, and the layers of meaning all embellish the experience of this performance.

The song “500 Miles’”is related to the older traditional folk song “900 Miles” and was popularized by numerous artists during the folk revival of the 1960’s. My dad, Leon Bibb, recorded a fine version which inspired my rendition. Every time I sing it, I hear his voice. Story-wise, it felt like a natural fit for the Ridin’ album. — Eric Bibb
