Song Premiere: Bob Davoli “Don’t You Let the Darkness Drag You Down”

Listen & Watch Song Premieres

Americana Highways brings you this seasonally appropriate premiere of Bob Davoli’s song “Don’t You Let the Darkness Drag You Down,” from his forthcoming album Wistfully Yours (Gutbrain Records). Wistfully Yours was produced by Bob Davoli, recorded at Wellspring Sound Studio; engineered and mixed by Eric Kilburn, with assistance from consulting engineer Rob Griffin. Toby Mountain of Northeastern Digital mastered it, and Steve Coit created the cover art.

“Don’t You Let the Darkness Drag You Down” is Bob Davoli on vocals and guitar; Gabriela Martina on vocals; Maureen McMullan on background vocals; Kevin Barry on pedal steel and Marty Ballou on string bass.   Written by the 72 year old Davoli, this song flows with the gentle breeze of wisdom.  It’s all grace, with no snarls.  Give it a listen and see, then seek out the album.

My wife and I were watching the movie ‘Beginners,’ with Christopher Plummer, when one of the characters uttered the phrase ‘don’t you let the darkness drag you down.’ I asked my wife to put the movie on pause while I wrote down the phrase. The next morning, I wrote the entire song. Essentially it’s about hope. — Bob Davoli
