Song Premiere: Mark Newman’s “Sharing the Blues” from Upcoming “Empirical Truth”

Listen & Watch Song Premieres

Americana Highways presents this premiere of Mark Newman’s album Empirical Truth (Danal Music), due to be released on July 12.

Guitarist and vocalist Mark Newman is accompanied on Empirical Truth by Shawn Murray and John Michel on drums; Kevin McKendree, James Dower and Mark Bonder on keyboards; Craig Privett on bass; with Naomi Margolin, Janet Montalbo, Maag Stanley, Steve Bluth, Jeff Lubin, Jacob Koch, and Norm Madnick on vocals.

An empirical truth is one you see in the world, as opposed to a rational truth which we can deduce purely by logic. Mark Newman’s Empirical Truth is songs about the truths of love and struggle and the injustice of our justice system, and there’s even a song about gun violence and the Dakota Access Pipeline, a cover from Little Feat (“Roll Um Easy”) and another of John Oates (‘Mississippi Mile”).  This one, “Sharing the Blues” really showcases the quintessentially funky slide guitar skills of Mark Newman.  Catch Empirical Truth for a bluesy, funky dose of truth all rolled into one offering.

No solo recording is ever really a solo endeavor. It’s been a privilege to work with all the musicians, engineers and artists that helped get this done. Turn it up! — Mark Newman
