Americana Highways brings you this premiere of Paul Benjaman’s song “Church of Space and Time” from his forthcoming album My Bad Side Wants A Good Time, scheduled to be released by Horton Records on June 7.  The album was produced and engineered by Paul Benjaman and Jason Weinheimer, with additional engineering at The Church Studio by Cade Roberts, Dan Heinrichs, and Jared Tyler. It was mixed by Jason Weinheimer at Fellowship Hall Sound with one song mixed by Emi Macchi.  It was recorded at The Church Studio in Tulsa, with additional recording at Ripley Studio, Blue Alleluia Studio, and Mixed Signals Studios. The album was mastered by Bobby Giel at Welcome To 1979.

“Church of Space and Time” is Paul Benjaman on guitar and vocals; Jesse Aycock on guitar, lap steel, pedal steel, and  background vocals; John Fullbright on piano, keys, and harmonica; Paddy Ryan on drums and percussion; Aaron Boehler on bass; Sarah Frick, Majesty Pearson, and Alexandria Nichole Moore on background vocals; and Ann Bell on vocals.

This video for “Church of Space and Time” was captured and edited by Press Pause Films at The Church Studio in Tulsa, OK during the recording sessions for My Bad Side Wants A Good Time.  This is the studio previously owned by Leon Russell and the stone building is full of Tulsa sound vibes, visually and all throughout this song.  It’s a lighthearted heavy groove – great playing. Strong vocal harmonies by Ann Bell punch it up a notch, while Paul Benjaman sings it nice and easy.

A few days before the Church Studio Sessions, I wrote this song as tribute to its brainchild Leon Russell. I brought it to the sessions without rehearsing it with the band and it magically came together in three takes. The Queen of the Tulsa Sound, Ann Bell, lent her vocal prowess and makes this tune happen! – Paul Benjaman
