Steve Drizos – i love you now leave me alone

Oregonite Steve Drizos has a new album i love you now leave me alone, released via Cavity Search Records, which was produced, recorded, and mixed by Drizos at The Panther studio in Portland Oregon. It was mastered by Jon Neufeld at Treehouse Mastering. Given that he has been a member of Jerry Joseph’s band the Jackmormons for three decades now, and a producer on his own, we should anticipate a seasoned, intricate offering.

Low fi singing, fuzzy but nonetheless clear as a bell, launches this album and the song “boomerang” brings on the feel of the daily grind – over and over again, up and down, we live it.

“troubled heart” pleads with a partner to address the distance between them, and “sometimes I get lost alone in the dark and it’s hard to say I love you with a troubled heart.”  “brooklyn 97202” “it’s all wrapped up in how messed up all the signals seem.”

In “shadow life” we wake up to find a chain around our heart, and then, we’re waking up from the shadow life.  This song speaks to the heart, and reveals Steve’s authentic songwriting acumen. “shapes on the wall,” “a heavy load,” staying up all night, it captures a human struggle to stay lucid and conscious. Here is the core of the album.

The album’s title is right on track for what unfolds within. It’s certainly not flowers and rainbows, it’s all personal introspection. The music is heavy, but it’s not just a bundle of energy.  Steve Drizos has things to say. And sometimes we need to turn up and rock out, to be able to hear.
