JP Soars “Goin’ to South Carolina”
Americana Highways presents this premiere of JP Soars’ song “Goin’ to South Carolina,” featuring Anne Harris on fiddle, from his forthcoming album Gypsy Blue Revue, which is set for release on May 29. Gypsy Blue Revue was recorded at Tony’s Treasures studios in Cadiz Ohio; engineered by Cody Romshak and Mark Puskarich; produced by JP Soars; and mixed and mastered at Studio 13 in Ft Lauderdale by Jeremy Staska.
“Goin’ to South Carolina” is JP Soars on vocals, electric guitar and lap steel guitar; Anne Harris on fiddle; Cleveland Frederick on bass; and Chris Peet on drums.
As JP tells us, “The music for this song was essentially written in the studio on the spot. I had the main riff at the beginning and one vocal line: ‘I’m goin down to South Carolina.’ We started playing the riff in the studio while the engineer was moving around some microphones. We all just kinda looked at each other, and everyone had smiles on their faces. It just fell into place and felt and sounded great immediately. We took a little lunch break and I finished the arrangement. We came back from lunch and recorded the song. A couple of weeks later when I got back to Florida, I finished the lyrics and recorded them. I based the lyrics, kind of on a character I came up with in my head.”
This is sultry blues in an easy song about heading to South Carolina to put your mind at ease. It’s sexy and an instantly new classic.
