Tawny Ellis – “Flicker of the Flame”

Americana Highways is hosting this premiere of Tawny Ellis’ song “Flicker of the Flame” from her forthcoming album Edge of the World. Edge of the World was produced and recorded by Gio Loria and Tawny Ellis; recorded at Tularosa Estates; engineered by Gio Lorio and Chris Sorum with additional engineering by Jason Soda; mixed by Adam Loeffler and Gio Loria; and mastered by Peter Lyman of Infrasonic. Tawny created the artwork for the album cover and the single cover photo was taken of Tawny by Gus Van Sant in the 90’s.

“Flicker of the Flame” is Tawny Ellis on vocals and tenor guitar; Gio Loria on acoustic guitar; Joshua Ray Gooch on electric guitar and bass;  Joshua Lopez on electric guitar; Kaveh Rastegar on bass; and Kyle Crane on drums.

The friendships from youth and young adulthood are fiercely loyal and truly exceptional, yet time flows without slowing and suddenly these relationships are a glimpse and a memory. Tawny captures this sentiment and honors those times with this easygoing song as it lays down the realization of the passage of time that was just a flicker of the flame, “not a care in the world, so young so wild, trying to be someone…” There’s comfort in the arrangement somehow.

A shimmering tribute to my early days navigating the wild, creative streets of Hollywood, the song captures the beauty, chaos, and fleeting magic of youth and the friendships that helped shape my artistry. “Flicker of the Flame” reflects on those transformative nights, marked by dreams, creativity, and a brilliant friend whose influence still lingers in my work today. – Tawny
