Cory Coons – “Crumbs”
Americana Highways is hosting this premiere of Cory Coons’ song “Crumbs” song which is a stripped down version of the original recorded version released 20 years ago. This song was recorded live at the Legendary Sun Recording Studio in Memphis. It was engineered by Dane Giordano, mixed and mastered by Cory.
“Crumbs” is Cory M. Coons on acoustic guitar and vocals.
This video was created by Cory M. Coons with additional footage by Charleigh Lynn Coons and Leighann Coons. This is a song that evokes imagery of facets that are integral to being raised in the country: “when the sun sets low when the day is done, you won’t find a lock on my front door and there ain’t no crumbs on the kitchen floor” convey so much, and linger even when you travel and try city life. A base, there remains a general expectation of trust in your fellow man, and the routines of tidiness that come from living with a traditional family. Cory sings about it all over strummed raw guitar amid rural outdoor scenes, and the warmth of the simplicity shines.
This new stripped-down version of my song ‘Crumbs’ holds a special place in my heart. Recorded live off the floor at the legendary Sun Recording Studio in Memphis, TN, it brings the song back to its roots—raw, acoustic, and honest—just the way I wrote it 20 years ago. To celebrate the song’s 20th anniversary, we tracked it in a single take, capturing the magic of guitar and vocals recorded together, no auto-tune, just pure emotion. We used vintage mics and half-inch reel-to-reel tape for that timeless slapback vocal effect, blending it with a dash of today’s digital tools to create something truly unique.
The video is just as personal. It features my own footage from Sun Studio and Elvis Presley’s Graceland, alongside some candid shots captured by my ‘Coons family video crew’ at the studio and the stunning Armsdale Farm property where we stayed. Nestled in Columbia, TN, just south of Nashville, Armsdale is home to one of the last remaining historic tobacco barns, adding its own charm and history to this journey. This project is more than just a recording—it’s a tribute to the past, a celebration of the present, and a nod to everything that inspires me. – Cory Coons
