Domenic Cicala – “As Good As It Gets”
Americana Highways presents this premiere of Domenic Cicala’s song “As Good As It Gets,” from his forthcoming album set for release next year.
“As Good As It Gets” is Domenic on vocals; Blair Hogan on guitar and bass; Bill Starks on piano and organ; Eric Selby on drums; Chris Watling on sax; Nick Reider on trumpet; and Billy Coulter on vocals.
This is just a great song about things that change as we mature and move through decades, with the general suggestion to let go of the hand wringing and worries, and accept that this is what it is. It’s friends getting together and having a conversation: “how’d we get this old? / let’s raise a glass / man I stopped drinking / I still get weak kneed when I hear them clinking / I sunk so low I stopped thinking.” But ultimately, “I have got no regrets.” It’s an easy, no pressure song of acceptance with a breezy Americana style and touches of sax and trumpet to help it soar.
This is a song about reconnecting with an old “running” buddy and acknowledging the past while accepting the present, ultimately expressing no regrets and gratitude for the ride. – Domenic Cicala
