American Blonde “Happy”
Americana Highways is hosting this premiere of American Blonde’s song “Happy” from their forthcoming EP Delta Home, which is set for release on October 2. Delta Home was produced by Lincoln Parish, engineered by Jordan Logue, mixed by Stephen Von Heyking, and mastered by Frank Gagliardi. It was recorded in Sienna Studios (Nashville,TN) and Delta State University (Cleveland, MS).
“Happy” is Natalia Morris on lead vocals and acoustic guitar; Christina Morris on vocals, drums, and percussion; Pete Horne on lead and rhythm guitar; Zach Dickerson on lead and rhythm guitar; Will Garrett on bass and background vocals; Lincoln Parish on keys and acoustic guitar; Delta State Vocal Collective on choral vocals; Delta State Music Institute on choral vocals; and Libby Rafada on background vocals.
Natalia Morris tells us about the song: “My good friend Jimmy Nash and I wrote “Happy” during a dark stretch of 2020, when the world paused long enough to force me to sit with my own thoughts. As a firstborn daughter, an oldest sister, and the “happy camper” everyone counted on, I’d never really let myself speak on how I felt. I just carried everyone else’s weight until I couldn’t carry my own anymore. Writing this song gave me the words I didn’t have, and taught me to take care of myself first. It’s an anthem for anyone giving their best even when they feel like they have nothing left to give.”
This song packs a punch through the sorrow, and despite the lyrics about a person who not only isn’t happy, but also has lost touch with who they really are. It’s a “breaking out, throwing off the yoke” song, with emphasis and purpose and a rising, catchy chorus.
