Lisa Reagan “The Wild Geese” and “Lisa Reagan Celebrates Wendell Berry”
Americana Highways is hosting this premiere of Lisa Reagan’s tribute video to Wendall Berry, the American environmental novelist and poet who passed away recently. Berry was the inspiration of Reagan’s recent album of poetry turned into songs What We Need Is Here. Just below her tribute video is the video for “The Wild Geese” as well, which is a song based on the poem “What We Need Is Here” by Wendell Berry. This song was produced and mixed by Jamshied Sharifi, and mastered by Andy Vandette .
On the recording of Wendell Berry’s poem “Wild Geese,” musicians are Lisa Reagan on vocals; Marc Copely on acoustic and electric guitars; Benjamin Wittman on drums and percussion; Peter Godart on piano; Kirsten Agresta on harp; Séamus Egan on whistle;Christopher Layer on Uilleann pipes and Highland pipes; Paul Woodiel on hurdy-gurdy; Inna Dudukina on duduk; and Peter Eldridge as male choir vocals.
As Lisa tells us about the song,”It was like creating a painting that ‘looked’ how the poem felt. I wanted to set a mood, creating a tonal palette for the words.”
This tribute video was directed by Gil Gilbert and edited by Jordan Mizrahi. Berry spent a lifetime eloquently, both directly and indirectly referring to the majesty of nature. In these two videos, Reagan does the same, echoing the significance of connection and stewardship for nature both through direct language, and as obliquely referenced
