The best concept of ghosts is one of reminders and guides about the past and future avenues. This is the one Mark Newman spends some time with, here in this song. “‘Ghosts’ is about the people and experiences that stay with you,” Newman observes. “Some memories bring comfort, others bring pain, but they all become part of who you are. In that way, we’re all surrounded by ghosts.”
Electric, bluesy and a little bit psychedelic, this song weaves in imagination with skilled riffs and musicianship. “Every night you’re visited by everything you’re trying to forget, they’re only your ghosts, the memories that you host that you can’t put aside.” These troubling thought are only your ghosts. If you remember that we all have them, and nothing is perfect, the painful hauntings can be silenced and we can focus on the better memories instead.
