Jordan Seven “Mercury”

Americana Highways is hosting this premiere of Jordan Seven’s song “Mercury,” the title track from his new album set for release later this year. The entire album was produced, mixed, and mastered, with songwriting by  Jordan.

“Mercury” is Jordan Seven on vocals, guitars and other instruments; and Chris Moore on drums.

Jordan tells us about the song: “’Mercury’ started with a rising chord progression I had in mind that kept building and pushing upward. I started thinking about heat and passion, and how neither can be easily contained once they reach a certain point.

“From a production standpoint, I wanted the song to keep that upward momentum all the way through. The verses and the guitar solo don’t really back off. They keep building, so when the chorus hits, it feels like a natural release of everything that’s been driving the song forward.

“I wasn’t interested in writing something that just sits on the surface as a song about physical attraction. It’s more layered than that. The first line of the chorus, ‘Melting down our daggers and we’re forging tools of bliss,’ really captures that for me. There’s conflict in there, but it doesn’t stay destructive. If the feeling is meaningful enough, it can transform into something that deepens connection instead of tearing it apart.

“‘Mercury’ is one of the more broadly approachable songs I’ve written. I can imagine it in a setting where people can really lean into the pulse and the energy. Maybe it brings people a little closer. It’s one of the more intense tracks on the record, but at its core it’s about what happens when you don’t veer away from something powerful. When you stay with it, push through the friction, and try to find something meaningful and lasting.”

It’s a powerful statement about desire and the tensions within it, expressed with an electric band feel: “We can’t contain the heat inside this sweltering abyss.”
