In Rebekah’s words, “On one occasion, I went out with a girlfriend to dinner at a fashionable restaurant in Malibu, Nobu, to try to do something fun for a change when the kids weren’t with me, which is almost never, so I got out an old pair of jeans from my younger years before I was a mom. So they were kind of cool and cute. Had these denim ripped flowers on them and bellbottoms and low waist and I wore them. Standing outside of Nobu, this young girl comes up to me and says “I love your jeans!” Surprised and shocked, I said,”Really??” She said excitedly “yes where did you get them?!!” And I answered “”Oh my gosh, long time ago.” So of course, she wanted to know so that she could go out and buy a pair. Thinking back in my mind to when I bought them maybe 20 or 25 years earlier… and that I have to disappoint this girl who wants a pair of these jeans and break the news that whoever designed the jeans I was wearing, did so before she was even born…. and instead of answering and explaining to her in years, I went into mother mode, and answered her in experience. Then I laughed and answered: “I bought these so long ago. Three kids ago.” And then added “Two husbands ago”…. which is one of those relatable, life-isn’t-always-perfect kind of jokes to throw in.”
The sentiment in this song is widely relatable.
