Rebekah Gilbert Secret Keeper
Nashville artist Rebekah Gilbert recently introduced her newest EP, Secret Keeper, which brings together songs focused on recovery, overcoming trauma, battling addiction, and letting go of anything that causes harm. Gilbert shares that this project represents her subjective, singular journey. Secret Keeper is an intimate and personal portrayal of her own life.
According to Gilbert, “This EP is a reflection of the places I’ve been, both physically and emotionally, and the lessons I’ve learned along the way. I wanted to capture what it feels like to face your ghosts and still believe in grace and the possibility of healing.”
The EP was crafted under the direction of producer Nicole Witt, who also contributed backing vocals and violin. Recording took place at Sun Drop Sound Studio in Florence, Alabama, and the project features musicians such as Sol Philcox-Littlefield (guitar, banjo), Jimbo Hart (bass), Grayson Wright (keyboards), Jon Davis (drums), and Justin Holder (drums).
Originally hailing from Maylene, Alabama, and now based in Nashville, Gilbert blends folk, Americana, country, and pop tangs into music perhaps best designated “deeply authentic Americana.”
Among the seven tracks on Secret Keeper, highlights include the roots-flavored “Somebody Else’s House,” where Gilbert’s expressive vocals add an appealing sense of dangerous hues to the lyrics. The track “Sober” stands out with its radiant guitar work and easygoing rhythm, while Gilbert’s smooth vocals bring warmth to the song, evoking a bluesy folk vibe reminiscent of vintage ‘60s and ‘70s music.
“Coosa River” is noted for its rich, flowing soundscape, with Gilbert’s dreamy voice captivating listeners. The closing song, “Stay,” celebrates the journey to emotional, mental, and spiritual independence, combining stirring strings, piano, and emotive guitar with Gilbert’s memorable vocals.
With its fresh production, alluring melodies, and the silken voice of Rebekah Gilbert, Secret Keeper stands out as an impressive release.
