Rachael Sage & the Sequins “Belong To You”

Americana Highways presents this video premiere of Rachael Sage’s song “Belong to You” from her forthcoming album Canopy, which is set for release on October 24. Canopy was produced by Rachael and GRAMMY-nominated engineer Mikhail Pivovarov who also mixed the album with GRAMMY-winning producer Andy Zulla (Kelly Clarkson, Rod Stewart, Diana Ross).

“Belong To You” is Rachael Sage on lead and background vocals and piano; Doug Yowell on drums; Dave Eggar on cello; Kerry Brooks on upright bass; Will Wilde on harmonica; Kevin J. Killen on acoustic guitar, electric guitar, Hammond B3 organ, and background vocals; Trina Hamlin on background vocals; and Mikhail Pivovarov on background vocals.

This “Belong To You” performance video was composed and performed by Rachael Sage, directed and edited by John Shyloski; with Doug Yowell on drums, makeup by Paige Campbell, and special thanks to Johnny Montagnese.  The music is lush and when Rachael’s songbird vocals come it you’ll get chills down your spine. It’s bursting with loving human emotion: for belonging together, one and all. The piano, harmonica, guitar,  vocals and cello are immensely powerful in turn: “I will be strong for you.”

Rachael tell us: “I wrote “Belong To You” as a kind of secular gospel song, speaking to the devotional aspects of friendship and family. While it could certainly be interpreted as romantic – and I’ve been enjoying live listeners sharing with me what the song means to them – for me it’s a really meaningful reflection of exactly how I feel about not only my closest ride-or-die ‘besties,’ but also my bandmates in The Sequins. It was a huge pleasure to be able to record the song with my band at The Carriage House, a studio where I’ve been creating music since I was a teen. It’s a second home for me and the owners are like family. Special guest Will Wilde – a UK-based harmonica player who’s been touring with me for years – brings his soulful bluesy spirit and Kevin J. Killen’s Hammond organ playing definitely lifts the track into a space that feels sacred and timeless. In a time when there’s so much divisiveness and conflict I hope this song – and the accompanying performance clip with my brilliant drummer Doug Yowell – can be a balm of hope and remind us of what it feels like when loyalty and love bring out the best in us.”
